Participating architects and artists: Abalos & Herreros (architects, Madrid), An Architektur (architects, Berlin), ANC Arquitectos (architects, Porto) with Christian Gänshirt (architect, Berlin), Arbeitsgemeinschaft Weltkulturbotschaft Berlin: Tim Edler, Wilfried Hackenbroich, Markus Hirschmüller, Harry Schindele (architects, Berlin), Bureau Alexander Brodsky (architect/ artist, Moscow), Eduard Bru arquitectes (architects, Barcelona), Jens Fischer (architect, Leipzig), Grüntuch / Ernst Architekten (architects, Berlin), bernd kniess architekten stadtplaner (architects and urban planners, Cologne), Kühn Malvezzi (architects, Berlin), Lacaton Vassal (architects, Paris), Mada s.p.a.m. The exhibition opening was accompanied by a symposium with, amongst others, Regina Bittner, Wilhelm von Boddien, Friedrich Dieckmann, Karl Hanser, Wolfgang Hirsch, Jürgen Meyer H, Wolfgang Kil, Bojana Pejic, Goerd Peschken, and Michael Rutschky. The exhibition also included a history of the temporary use of the site since 1918, a conversation between Hans Ulrich Obrist and Cedric Price as well as a video lecture by Rem Koolhaas. Another group of proposals avoided any reference to previous history.

A majority of the proposals addresses the specific history of the site as either a Palast (East Germany), Imperial Castle or as a hybrid Palast-Castle. 16 international teams were invited and their proposals were exhibited and documented in the Palast der Republik.

Urban Catalyst initiated a call for ideas for future visions for Berlin’s Schlossplatz area. 16 JULY – 26 AUGUST 2005, PALAST DER REPUBLIK, BERLIN EXHIBITION AND SYMPOSIUM ON NEW CONCEPTS FOR BERLIN’S SCHLOSSPLATZ AREA.
